Sgt. Major John Canley Awarded The Medal Of Honor

Sgt. Major John Canley, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas,  becomes the 300th marine to receive the Medal of Honor for his leadership at the Battle of Hue in Vietnam.  The award was presented to him by President Donald J. Trump.

During the ceremony, which took place at the White House, the president said, “Fifty years ago, an American marine fought with unmatched bravery in one of the longest and bloodiest battles of the Vietnam War: The battle of Hue City. The name of that marine is Sgt. Major John Canley.”

The Medal of Honor is the United States of America’s highest and most prestigious personal military decoration that may be awarded to recognize U.S. military service members who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor.
